The Best Hotel in Maui: Hotel Wailea

Tyler and I spent last weekend in Maui, at the magical and perfect Hotel Wailea.

This was the first time we’d been away for more than a night since having Charlotte, so it was kind of a big deal. We had SO much fun together, the type of trip I’ll remember forever.

We were only gone for 3 nights, but the timing with our flights gave us plenty of time to enjoy both travel days in Maui too. The trip felt like the perfect amount of time, and we were able to totally relax and have fun. By the time Monday morning rolled around, we were beside ourselves with excitement to get back to the girls.

Tyler and I had been to Maui once before–on our babymoon when we were pregnant with Charlotte. That trip was both of our first times to Hawaii, actually, and it was where we found out that we were having a little girl. Being back in Wailea almost 4 years later felt way more sentimental than I thought it would.

The whole trip felt like a honeymoon, and even more so because it truly felt like a well-deserved break.

When we were engaged, Tyler and I went back and forth about what kind of honeymoon we wanted to do. We ultimately decided to do something a little more adventurous and backpacked around Italy for a couple of weeks. We knew we’d want to do a more beachy/luxurious trip later, when we felt like we really needed the rest, lol.

Fast forward six years, and we did need the rest. Something about being pregnant or breastfeeding (or both, lol) for four years straight made 3 days away feel like a sabbatical.

Anyway, today’s post is all about the Hotel Wailea. This was, hands-down, the best hotel we’ve ever stayed in. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a luxurious, private stay in Maui.

The Hotel Wailea

The property is nestled in the hills of Wailea, less than a mile up from the beach. The views of the ocean and coastline are staggering. We could have spent hours out on our deck, taking everything in.

The Hotel Wailea feels very exclusive in that there are only 72 rooms on the 15-acre property. We were told that the hotel was totally booked while we were there, and it honestly felt like we had the place to ourselves.

The landscaping at the Hotel Wailea is absolutely stunning, with lush palms and tropical plants immaculately placed over every square inch of the property. There truly isn’t an angle less than perfect.

A huge waterfall runs next to the open air lobby, under the restaurant, and down through the property. Like I said, magical.

The hotel is adults only which made the experience all the more peaceful (and perfect for two young parents escaping for the weekend–no offense, Emmie and Char!).

Birdcage Bar

Next to the lobby, there’s a beautiful bar/lounge that sits underneath a huge atrium–they call it the “birdcage”. At dusk, birds fly through and fill the space with chirping that sounds so peaceful you’d think it was playing on a meditation soundtrack. Tyler and I had a drink here at sunset one night, and it felt like a scene from a Bond movie.

Suites

The suites at the Hotel Wailea are pristine and decorated to the nines. Each luxury apartment has a kitchenette, living area, huge bathroom, and patio. Our space felt totally private, like a jungle oasis. We loved every single thing about our suite but especially the view from the deck.

Valet + Car Service

In addition to a complimentary valet service for all guests, the Hotel Wailea offers vehicles for guests to borrow–or get driven in (!)–for use around the Wailea area. Joyride in a Land Rover? Yes, please.

Fitness Center

The amenities are all just insane–Tyler and I even made use of the hotel gym, a pristine fitness center that boasts state-of-the-art equipment as well as a sweeping view of the Pacific and pool below.

Pool

I have to say that one of my favorite parts of this hotel was the pool. Tyler and I typically aren’t keen on posting up at the pool all day–too neurotic, I guess. But for this trip, we PROMISED ourselves that we were going to relax as much as possible. So we buckled down and spent a few hours poolside each day, a task that was all too easy to complete. We read, swam, and even tuned into the Chargers game on Sunday afternoon (I don’t want to talk about it).

The pool at the Hotel Wailea is gorgeous, surrounded by palm trees, and lined with Insta-worthy umbrellas and lounge chairs. Tons of shade, tons of cushy seating. I definitely took some mental notes for the backyard styling I have yet to do at home.

Is there anything juicier than ordering lunch at the pool? I ordered the poke bowl and Tyler got the popcorn shrimp–both were FAB. Also, the bar at the pool made this absolutely insane drink called the Tropical Joe, made with cold brew and rum and I can’t remember what else, but DEAR LORD. Our check-out receipt was basically just a million Tropical Joes, lol.

The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea

We dined at The Restaurant on our last night, and it was such a romantic way to end the trip. The food was absolutely exquisite, and I’m still thinking about that gnocchi.

The Hotel Wailea is truly such a special and unique property. We are SO glad we stayed there. I texted my sister an hour after we checked in to let her know I had her honeymoon destination sorted.

Packing List:

(By the way–this adorable pink coverup I’m wearing is from Nuage Bleu, this cute boutique we stumbled upon in Paia. Although it seems like this exact dress may be sold out, I wanted to link the boutique because they have so many beautiful pieces.)
